NEWARK, Del. – After being tied the entire game, the Syracuse University field hockey team (1-1) scored with 10 minutes remaining to top Pennsylvania, 1-0. Senior forward Megan Stuart (New Holland, Pa.) scored the winning goal off a deflection eight yards in front of the cage.
The defection came off a shot from senior back Michelle Sola’s (Blandon, Pa.). It was Stuart’s third overall and first game-winning goal of her career. Sola’s assist was her first of the season and eighth for her career.
“We have been working in practice on getting touches in the circle,” associate head coach Mary McCracken said. “Heather (Hess) was very steady for us on the defensive end. Especially during the last 10 minutes when Penn was pressing.”
Sophomore goalkeeper Heather Hess (Lititz, Pa.) recorded four saves as she posted her third shutout of her career. Liz Schlossberg led the Quakers with three saves. Both teams registered eight shots.
SU will play at Delaware tomorrow at 2:30 p.m.
